Deutsche Bahn: Oat Drink as a Milk Alternative for Coffee
Since January 2022, Deutsche Bahn has been offering an oat drink as a plant-based milk alternative for coffee on ICE and IC trains.
To kick off the new year, Deutsche Bahn (DB) is introducing an oat drink as a milk alternative for coffee on board ICE and Intercity trains.
The oat drink from Swedish company Oatly is 100% plant-based and can be ordered as an alternative to cow's milk with the Fairtrade-certified filter coffee or Caffè Crema.
Vegans who enjoy coffee can look forward to this new addition. A literally great move.
Sustainability in On-Board Catering
With this step, Deutsche Bahn is implementing another “building block for greater sustainability in on-board catering.”
Deutsche Bahn also points to measures already implemented as part of its sustainability strategy:
For nearly two years, Deutsche Bahn has been offering mineral water from share on its long-distance trains. By purchasing share's sustainable water, passengers help fund well-building projects and reduce plastic waste. Deutsche Bahn is investing extensively in the use of renewable raw materials from sustainable forestry. In June 2021, DB replaced its previous plastic cutlery for to-go products with FSC-certified wooden cutlery.
For many years, DB has been donating food and tableware to food banks, the Bahnhofsmission, and other non-profit organisations in Germany. Since April 2017, DB has served exclusively Fairtrade-certified coffee on its ICE and IC trains. Other hot beverages such as tea and cocoa have also been switched to fairly traded raw materials.
Since 2013, DB has collaborated with the Bergwaldprojekt association, which is dedicated to the preservation and care of native forests. Through this partnership, the association has been able to plant over 35,000 new trees in Germany with more than 175’000 euros in support. More on sustainable living can be found on wildbeimwild.com.
More on the subject of recreational hunting: What the research says about this is shown by Hunting fact-checked: the state of research.
The position of IG Wild beim Wild: IG Wild beim Wild rejects recreational hunting. Our model is the canton of Geneva, which has managed without recreational hunting since 1974: without hunting seasons, without hunting dogs, without driven hunts, without high seats, without the animal cruelty and crime that go hand in hand with hunting season elsewhere. What has worked there for over fifty years disproves every position paper by JagdSchweiz. An association that bases its policy on claims it refutes in its own documents is not a professional organisation, but a factory for misinformation.
