Recreational hunters mistake father and daughter for wildlife
Kim Drawdy had written on Facebook that recreational hunting was his passion: “It’s not something I do, it’s a part of who I am.” Shortly afterwards, he and his young daughter were shot in the forest by other recreational hunters. Apparently, the two were mistaken for wildlife. First aid measures by emergency responders were unsuccessful, and father and daughter died at the scene.
According to the hunting authority of the US state of South Carolina, four recreational hunters were in the area. They were hunting deer in the forest. The exact circumstances are not yet known at this time. The question of why Kim Drawdy and little Lauren were mistaken for deer, whether they were wearing orange warning vests, and who fired the shots at 2:30 p.m. in Walterboro still needs to be thoroughly investigated.
Last day of hunting season ends in tragedy
New Year's Day was the last day of the current deer hunting season in South Carolina and ended with this tragedy. Hunting accidents like this one show that recreational hunting poses a significant safety risk not only to wildlife, but also to people.
