Nothing justifies hunting
A new commercial is sparking debate in Italy: with powerful imagery and a clear message, the Fondazione Capellino is taking a stand against a planned expansion of recreational hunting.
A hunting dog that checks his hobby hunter's weapon and forces him to stop: this unexpected image closes the new TV spot by Almo Nature and the Fondazione Capellino.
With the forceful statement “Nothing justifies hunting,” the initiative aims to raise awareness while simultaneously influencing political action. The spot will air from 4 October, the feast day of Saint Francis, on Rai, Sky and Discovery, as well as online on computers and smartphones.
Political background
At the centre of the campaign with petition is a draft law currently being debated in the Italian Senate. It proposes a sweeping liberalisation of recreational hunting: an extension of the season, restrictions on protected areas, opening of state forests to hunting, as well as hunting in snow and at mountain passes. The use of decoy birds is also set to be expanded, and for the first time not only hobby hunters but also private individuals and farmers could be permitted to kill animals under management plans.
We want to reopen a serious debate on hunting, free from ideological blinkers, explains Pier Giovanni Capellino, President of the Fondazione Capellino. The question is simple: can we continue to allow the future of nature to be entrusted to guns?
The foundation warns that the law serves neither the public, nor agriculture, nor the environment. Instead, uncertainty and danger for citizens would increase, as fields, paths and forests would in future have to be shared even more with armed hobby hunters, including hobby hunters from abroad.
Commitment to biodiversity
The Fondazione Capellino is a non-profit organization for the protection of the biosphere, financed exclusively by the pet food company Almo Nature, which brothers Pier Giovanni and Lorenzo Capellino donated to the foundation. Profits flow entirely back into environmental projects, a model the foundation calls “reintegration economy.”
Almo Nature is one of the leading international brands in the premium pet food segment. Since its founding, the company has combined quality and innovation with social and ecological responsibility.
With the new campaign, the company and foundation reaffirm their position: Biodiversity protection is not an option, but an obligation. The petition accompanying the TV campaign is addressed to all citizens of Italy, regardless of political affiliation, and calls for the rejection of the planned legislative amendment in the Senate.
The campaign “Nothing justifies hunting” is more than a television advertisement: it is an appeal that combines emotion and political engagement. Whether it can decisively shape public awareness and influence the decision in parliament will become clear in the coming weeks.
