The canton of Vaud has approved the shooting of two wolf pups.

The permit is valid until August 31 in particular.

The canton of Vaud has approved the shooting of two young wolves born in 2024 from the Mont-Tendre pack. The permit is valid until August 31.

The decision is immediately enforceable. It suspends the suspensive effect for any appeal, as stated in the decision published in the Official Gazette on July 26.

According to the responsible department, the shooting permit is restricted to alpine pastures located near the herds that were recently attacked by wolves.

Between 70 and 80 livestock killed

As the newspaper «24 heures» reports in its Wednesday edition, the association «Defend the Wolf» has announced it will mobilize against these regulatory culls. According to its Facebook page, the group has settled in “comfortably” at the foot of Mont-Tendre.

Since the beginning of the year, between 70 and 80 poorly protected livestock have been killed by wolves in the canton of Vaud. Approximately three quarters of these animals are sheep and one quarter are calves or young cattle.
