For World Vegan Day, three new yoghurt alternatives are hitting Migros refrigerator shelves. They complement an assortment that already includes around 700 vegetarian and vegan certified products.
The recipe for this world-first plant-based yoghurt alternative made from chickpeas was developed by Migros subsidiary Elsa. The world novelty is available in four Migros cooperatives.
Chickpeas as a Protein Source
For World Vegan Day on 1 November, there is even more variety in the refrigerated aisle: the new products represent the world's first yoghurt alternative based on chickpeas, and it comes remarkably close to the original. Thanks to chickpea protein, the new plant-based yoghurt alternative has a natural creaminess and also scores highly with its nutritional profile. Chickpeas are an important natural source of protein. They contain 20 grams of protein per 100 grams and have been part of the human diet for 5’000 years.
Natural Ingredients Without Additives
Migros subsidiary Elsa developed the new recipe at its production site in Estavayer-le-Lac, using exclusively natural ingredients. The ingredient list therefore deliberately contains no additives. The new yoghurt alternatives are available in strawberry, vanilla and apricot flavours and are now available in the Migros cooperatives of Aare, Zurich, Lucerne and Basel. A plant-based diet is an important contribution to animal welfare and to the reduction of environmental impact.
