Restaurant on the Zugspitze switches to vegetarian menu
Station on the Zugspitze: A restaurant will henceforth offer only vegan and vegetarian dishes.
In a restaurant on the Zugspitze, only vegetarian or vegan dishes are now served.
However, ski enthusiasts need not forgo Bavarian specialities.
Purely plant-based cuisine at 2’600 metres
At the start of the ski season on Germany's highest mountain, the Zugspitze, one restaurant is removing all meat dishes from its menu. The «Gletscher 2600» will offer exclusively vegan and vegetarian cuisine from the end of November, announced Verena Tanzer, spokesperson for the Bavarian Zugspitzbahn. Bavarian specialities will remain on the menu, but with meat substitute products.
The «Münchner Merkur» had previously reported on the menu change. According to Tanzer, the two other restaurants on the Zugspitze will retain their meat-based menus. However, dishes with meat substitutes such as vegan burgers or chili sin carne are also available there.
Demand for sustainable nutrition increases
The reason for the meat-free cuisine at the «Gletscher 2600» is, according to her statements, the growing interest in sustainable nutrition – and to demonstrate that meat is not always necessary. For two years now, all nine restaurants of the mountain railways around the Zugspitze and Wank have exclusively offered the meat-free chili sin carne variant of the classic chili con carne, Tanzer explained. Since then, sales volumes have tripled.
