Years of Pressure from PETA
For years, PETA and its partner organisations had been putting pressure on the designer ahead of this groundbreaking announcement: in 2002, PETA supporters stormed the designer’s runway and showed the audience an important message: «Fur kills.» Now the cult designer follows the example of Armani, Versace, Ralph Lauren, Vivienne Westwood, Stella McCartney, and many others.
Fur Is Dead
«This decision reflects the spirit of the times,» said Johanna Fuoss, campaigner at PETA Germany. «The vast majority of people do not want products for which an animal was locked up and killed by electric shock or beaten to death. Fur today is as dead as the animals whose coats were stolen from them.»
In recent years, the animal rights organisation and its partners have exposed unimaginable animal cruelty on fur farms in Poland, Germany, and Canada. Foxes and minks are kept in filthy wire cages until they are finally beaten, gassed, or killed by electric shock. More on animal rights.
