Rösti Tramples the Will of the People
Current developments in Switzerland raise important questions about the handling of protected species and highlight the challenges that can arise when biodiversity conservation and the protection of animal species come into conflict with human interests.
Wolf population to be reduced by 70%
In 2020, the Swiss population voted by a large majority to maintain the protection of wolves .
Yet now the SVP “Environment Minister” Albert Rösti is under fire for apparently harbouring contemptible plans to introduce new regulations to combat biodiversity .
These new proposals have triggered widespread outrage, as they contradict the democratic will of the people and aim to reduce the wolf population in Switzerland by a full 70%.
Petition against the wolf massacre
Let us stop Federal Councillor Albert Rösti’s rampage: Sign the petition
Nature conservation organisations in particular accuse Federal Councillor Rösti of ignoring public opinion and undermining the protection of wolves .
Wolf attacks on livestock in decline
It is important to emphasise that despite the increase in wolf packs in recent years, the overall number of attacks on livestock has declined. This is due to improved herd protection measures .
Every year, more than ten thousand sheep, goats, cattle perish during the summer grazing season due to inadequate herding and animal welfare failures by hobby livestock keepers without proof of competence — and not because of wolves!

Interest group Wild beim Wild
The IG Wild beim Wild is a non-profit interest group committed to the sustainable and non-violent improvement of the human-animal relationship, with a particular specialisation in the legal aspects of wildlife protection. One of our main concerns is to introduce a contemporary and rigorous wildlife management model in the cultural landscape, modeled on the Canton of Geneva — without hobby hunters, but with upright wildlife wardens who truly merit the title and act according to a code of honour. The monopoly on the use of force belongs in the hands of the state. The IG supports scientific methods of immunocontraception for wild animals.
