Zurich Falcon Camera: Live Broadcast from the Nesting Site
A webcam broadcasts live footage of peregrine falcons nesting in Zurich. A fascinating glimpse into the lives of birds of prey.
Around ten pairs of common kestrels nest in the city of Zurich each year.
They typically nest on larger industrial buildings, church towers, large trees in old crow nests, or on the Hallenstadion.
Two pairs of peregrine falcons also nest regularly in the city of Zurich. Among other things, they perform a public health function in the air by preying on sick pigeons, for example.
Common kestrels and peregrine falcons are listed as potentially endangered on the «Red List» of threatened species in Switzerland. For building-nesting birds, Grün Stadt Zürich offers free consultations for new constructions and renovations.
Since 1998, common kestrels or peregrine falcons have nested annually in the nesting boxes on the tall chimneys of the Josefstrasse and Hagenholz waste-to-energy plants operated by ERZ Entsorgung und Recycling Zürich.
A webcam installed there allows the nesting activity to be followed in real time.
