The Federal Government Strengthens Herd Protection During the 2023 Alpine Season
To better support the enforcement of herd protection and wolf management, the Federal Council plans to amend the hunting ordinance in early summer.
250 Wolves and 26 packs
In Switzerland there are currently around 250 wolves and at least 26 packs. The Federal Government is making additional financial resources of a total of CHF 4 million available for the 2023 alpine season to strengthen herd protection.
Immediate measures for alpine pastures
Funding covers auxiliary personnel, mobile accommodation on remote alpine pastures, and flat-rate payments for reinforcing fences. The FOEN has analysed the measures from last year and made adjustments. More on the topic of wolf protection and hunting legislation.
