Spain: Video about hunting becomes a scandal

During a hunting event with hobby hunters, a witness was able to film incredible animal cruelty at the edge of a gorge. Several hunting dogs and the prey fell over a cliff, while shots can be heard in the background.

Surreal scene at the edge of a gorge

During a hunting event in Herreruela, Cáceres in western Spain, documentary filmmaker Luis Domínguez filmed a surreal scene: while hunting dogs managed to corner a deer at the edge of a gorge, several hunting dogs that had clamped onto the deer fell into the depths. A hobby hunter also attempted to kill the deer with a knife during the horrific incident.

The video has caused widespread outrage among citizens in Spain, as it once again documents the appalling cruelty of hobby hunting.

Politicians condemn the barbarity

Several Spanish politicians have watched and shared the video. The leader of the left-wing movement Podemos, Pablo Iglesias, writes: “The people responsible for this barbarity have a name: they are criminals. Let us put an end to this once and for all and impose lasting punishment on those guilty.”

It remains unclear how many of the roughly dozen animals perished in the fall over the 15-metre-high cliff. More on crime and hobby hunting and on the animal welfare problem.
