A Statement Against Cruelty to Animals
The aim is to send a message against “cruelty to animals”, and the use of animal fur no longer reflects the values of the magazine, said «Elle»'s international editor-in-chief, Valéria Bessolo Llopiz.
The decision makes the magazine an international pioneer in its field and represents an important step towards raising awareness of environmental and animal welfare issues. It will also support demand for sustainable and innovative alternatives to fur. The fur ban at «Elle» applies to both editorial content and advertising.
Phased Implementation by 2023
While the ban on animal fur is already in place in 13 of its editions, it is set to take effect in a further 20 from early 2022 and in the remaining editions from 2023. The magazine, founded in France and published in Germany by Hubert Burda Media, is part of the French Groupe Lagarère. According to the publisher, «Elle» has 33 million readers across its 45 editions worldwide and receives 100 million monthly visits to its websites across 46 websites.
