How the Swiss slurry lobby manipulates

The refinement of grass or grain into animal food products for human consumption generally means, according to the farmers' association, the production of meat, milk, or eggs.

Editorial Wild beim Wild — 16 July 2023

"Refinement" as a euphemism

The term "refinement" is something we originally know from horticulture or the culinary arts.

That is, to improve something in quality, make it more valuable, or endow it with desirable properties.

The production of meat, however, can never be a "refinement" of the animals themselves. Nothing is refined by meat producers whatsoever — not even when, during breeding, they artificially inseminate cows after forcible procedures, in pursuit of a so-called refined breed.

«Higher-grade» or «refined» means, in the context of agriculture or among hobby hunters, not that the corresponding products represent a healthier food for the consumer's organism. Significant variants of this so-called refinement are increasingly viewed critically for reasons of health protection, ecology, energy efficiency, and the endangered global food supply. For example, only a small portion of the energy and protein content of feed is actually transferred to human nutrition when converted into animal products.

Such distortions of language are employed by the militant meat and dairy industry and by the recreational hunters.

The entire degenerate, malicious use of language and the abhorrent, degrading attitude of the farmers' or butchers' associations toward animals bears a strong resemblance to the primitive hunters' jargon.

For practical working reasons and for meat quality (more fat), bull calves should be castrated. Depending on the feed base, it takes, according to Meili, 15 to 24 months before an organic pasture-raised beef animal is ready for slaughter: In principle, optimal carcasses can be achieved with pure grass feeding. Depending on grass quality and breed intensity, however, a few kilos of maize or grain can be fed shortly before slaughter.

Meat is an important component of a healthy diet. It contains iron, zinc, vitamin B12 and many other nutrients that are important for the development of the human body. With a consumption of one kilogram of meat per week, we are far from overconsumption. That is why I also oppose this insufferable meat-bashing.

Mike Egger – National Councillor SVP

Meat is not a healthy food

That may apply to a dog, but certainly not to humans. Meat is energetically dead matter and therefore not a healthy food for body, mind and soul. Mike Egger would only need to take a close look at himself in the mirror, and he too would notice the anatomical differences between a true carnivore and a human being. Many people already feel ill at the sight of blood, let alone a dead animal body. Dead bodies have a repulsive effect on us. Of course a human being can eat anything, but that does not make them a rubbish bin.

Humans do not have true canine teeth and claws like those found in carnivorous animals in nature. Carnivores have sharp and pointed front teeth for tearing, but no chewing dentition for grinding. Carnivores generally swallow their food without chewing and raw. By consuming meat, we force the body into an unnatural diet for which it was not designed. A diet contrary to genetics, as advocated by Mike Egger, has only disadvantages and promotes cancer and other diseases. At best, meat is a filler in times of need, but hardly a food for humans. Cattle, for their part, developed mad cow disease.

Most animals on earth also feed on a vegetarian or vegan diet. History shows that in the past there were already vegetarian advanced civilisations, while elsewhere meat-eaters were still fighting each other with clubs. A reflection of this primitive culture can still be seen every year on the gruesome SVP election posters.

There is also no religion that recommends meat consumption as a foodstuff — quite the contrary! People are warned against it and restricted from it.

The meatless way of eating is simply the most natural. Sun, air, soil and water combine to produce the fruits of the earth: vegetables, fruits, legumes, nuts and seeds. The nutritional value of this food comes directly from the source, so to speak “from God's hand”. In contrast, we obtain the nutritional value from meat, fish or poultry “second-hand” – by consuming the flesh of living beings that have in turn developed natural energy, converted from various plants.

Meat in the diet always contains a high proportion of toxins and makes one extremely susceptible to health disorders. There are good reasons why health insurance premiums rise every year.

Countless studies suggest that meat consumption results in an increased risk of heart attack, high blood pressure and elevated cholesterol levels, but type 2 diabetes and many types of cancer are also linked to meat consumption.

From childhood, advertising and our social environment teach us that it is “normal” to kill animals and eat their flesh. Here we should remind ourselves that in earlier times it was also considered “normal” to oppress and exploit other human beings in slavery. Just because certain ways of thinking and acting were or are accepted as socially acceptable by the broad majority at a point in history does not mean that they are right and should be continued.
