Fatal ricochet near Volkach
On the feast of Epiphany at around 10:00 a.m., the man had met with other hobby hunters near Volkach in the Strehlhof hunting ground. Police believe that the hobby hunter was later on his own and had taken up his position as a shooter on the raised hide.
When the man from Würzburg did not return after the end of the hobby hunt, the other hobby hunters went looking for him. On a raised hide, they found the lifeless 78-year-old. The emergency services and the on-call doctor could only confirm the man's death.
Investigators assume ricochet
The criminal investigation department and the state criminal office have launched an investigation and are assuming an unfortunate ricochet. The fire brigade had to attend with a turntable ladder to recover the deceased from the raised hide. This incident is yet another entry in the long list of hunting accidents that claim lives and injuries every year.
