A major police operation took place on 13 June 2022 in Thuringia.

Special forces from the State Criminal Investigation Office were also on the scene.

According to police, a threatening situation arose at around 4:30 p.m. It had been preceded by a dispute which, according to reports, concerned «the handover of personal belongings».

A 70-year-old homeowner verbally threatened the son of his partner, the son's lawyer, and an employee of a locksmith service. As reported by MDR, the man had announced he would «shoot everyone dead».

Officers from the Hildburghausen Police Inspectorate cordoned off a large area around the scene, as it was known that the man was a hobby hunter and in possession of at least ten weapons.

In the course of events, the 70-year-old was persuaded during a phone call with police to turn himself in. He contacted police at around 5:45 p.m.

With the assistance of special forces and an explosives detection dog, the house was then thoroughly searched. All weapons found inside the house were seized. Shortly after 10 p.m., the man was released from police custody.
