Germany: Union motion to allow wolf hunting rejected

The CDU/CSU fails in its push to include the wolf in the catalogue of huntable species. The Environment Committee rejected the motion.

CDU/CSU motion fails

The CDU/CSU parliamentary group has failed in its push for “effective wolf management” and the inclusion of the wolf in the catalogue of huntable species. The corresponding motion was rejected by the Environment Committee with the votes of the coalition factions and the Left Party faction.

Hunting does not reduce wolf predation

A representative of the Greens pointed out that hunting the wolf does not necessarily contribute to a reduction in wolf kills. In Norway, the number of kills per wolf is much higher than in Germany. More decisive, rather, is the targeted removal of aggressive animals. Hobby hunters fail as a population control tool.
