Hunting

From Recreational Hunter to Poacher

Poachers are often recreational hunters who have lost their hunting licence. Recreational hunting cultivates cruelty and violence against wildlife.

Addicted Recreational Hunters in Hunting Fever

In our part of the world, poachers are mostly recreational hunters who have lost their hunting licence, or addiction-driven recreational hunters in the grip of hunting fever. The leisure-motivated injuring and killing of wild animals by recreational hunters “cultivates” behaviours such as cruelty, violence and brutality.

The fatal shootings in Kusel a year ago shocked all of Germany. Over a few illegally killed animals, two young police officers died in a hail of bullets from poachers.

Poaching as a minor offence?

In Germany, cases of hunting poaching are increasing rapidly. Modern night-vision devices and silencers make it easier than ever for criminal shooters to take their prey. This is not only about meat, but often also about trophies or simply the desire to kill. More on the topic of crime and hunting.

More on the subject of recreational hunting: In the dossier The Role and Criticism of Recreational Hunters we shed light on the training, power and self-image of recreational hunters. What the research says about this is shown by Hunting fact-checked: the state of research.

The position of IG Wild beim Wild: IG Wild beim Wild rejects recreational hunting. Our model is the canton of Geneva, which has managed without recreational hunting since 1974: without hunting seasons, without hunting dogs, without driven hunts, without high seats, without the animal cruelty and crime that go hand in hand with hunting season elsewhere. What has worked there for over fifty years disproves every position paper by JagdSchweiz. An association that bases its policy on claims it refutes in its own documents is not a professional organisation, but a factory for misinformation.
