The militant vegan

An activist is trending on social media such as YouTube with her provocative statements.

Some revere her as a courageous champion of animal rights. Others call her «the most annoying vegan in the world». The person in question is Raffaela Raab, who is causing a stir under the name «the militant vegan».

The username had always been «a joke», «since all vegans are labelled militant, radical or extremist anyway», the 26-year-old reveals to watson.

Several months ago, videos — particularly on TikTok — went through the roof. Since then, the «militant vegan» has become a familiar name to many users online. She has more than 345’000 followers on the platform. A large portion of her content consists of attempting to convince people on the street to embrace veganism. In doing so, she always states her opinion bluntly. She refers to meat from the supermarket as body parts, and factory farming as concentration camps. «As long as you don’t live vegan, you are an animal abuser,» she tells a young man in one of her videos.

Activist condemns milk production

The activist does not shy away from such actions. She criticizes everyone who does not share her views. Even vegetarians who describe themselves as animal lovers are animal abusers and hypocrites, as she frequently makes clear in her videos. In conversation, she explains why: «A cow that produces milk does so for her calf. The cow is raped and penetrated by human hands in order to become pregnant. Then her calf is taken away so that humans can drink the milk themselves.»

«This is about the fundamental rights of sentient beings — the right not to be enslaved, regardless of species.»

Fighting speciesism

Raab's activism is directed primarily against speciesism, which she seeks to combat. A speciesist is someone who perceives humans as superior to other species and feels entitled to treat them according to their own discretion.

«I hope that within five or ten years there will be the first laws regarding the abolition of the object status of animals, she says. As long as this has not yet happened, she will continue to remain the militant vegan and approach people in the open street with: «Are you already living vegan, or still brutally?»
