Brave Frenchman Steps Between Hobby Hunters and Stag
Completely exhausted, a stag runs into a man’s garden during a driven hunt. The hobby hunters and their dogs still refuse to leave the animal alone. The homeowner cannot stand by and intervenes.
Stag Chased Into Garden Twice
Hobby hunters in France pursued a stag twice into the garden of a resident of the village «Le Loup Pendu» in Ingrannes, near the Forest of Orléans.
The resident was forced to intervene and demand that the hobby hunters leave his property and spare the animal’s life.
When the stag stopped in his garden for the first time, the man opened a gate at the back of his house so it could escape the dogs. But the hobby hunt did not end there. An hour later, the stag returned to the same spot, this time exhausted and surrounded by the pack.
Noble Title Fails to Impress Resident
The count, Pierre-Louis de la Rochefoucauld, Duke of Estissac, then entered his property on horseback, but his family name was not enough to impress the homeowner, who did not flinch and placed himself between the deer and the dogs. The aggressors were forced to leave empty-handed.
The animal had been at the end of its strength and was bleeding from its muzzle, the resident recounted. He gave the animal apples, chestnuts, and water before it returned to the forest two hours later.
Regular driven hunts in the municipality
The incident took place on 25 November, according to French media outlets such as «Le Point» and «La Depeche». Such driven hunts are said to take place regularly in the municipality. These acts of barbarity are organised by the Count of La Rochefoucauld, whose family is one of the oldest French noble families of the high nobility.
These incidents occur dozens of times per season across France.
