Bear-strong: Food dispenser fails the test

The Tierpark Bern has installed a new food dispenser, which was completely destroyed by bear Finn after just one day.

Editorial Wild beim Wild · 22 September 2024

When a food dispenser is installed at the animal park, 18-year-old bear Finn gets straight to work because he does not want to wait for his food.

The animal park comments on its Instagram video, which shows the bear in action, with the words: «The test food dispenser in the Bear Park does not survive the bear test.»

The video shows Finn rearing up to his full height and swinging against the metal structure. Once, twice — by the seventh powerful shove, the mast finally collapses completely.

The animal park adds: «The keepers will have to build something sturdier.» We shall see whether the next construction can withstand the heavyweight — after all, this was only a test.

The dispenser had, incidentally, already been installed on Friday, but was only filled with food on Monday and promptly destroyed.

The position of IG Wild beim Wild: IG Wild beim Wild rejects recreational hunting. Our model is the canton of Geneva, which has managed without recreational hunting since 1974: without hunting seasons, without hunting dogs, without driven hunts, without high seats, without the animal cruelty and crime that go hand in hand with hunting season elsewhere. What has worked there for over fifty years disproves every position paper by JagdSchweiz. An association that bases its policy on claims it refutes in its own documents is not a professional organisation, but a factory for misinformation.
