Vegan menus to become the standard in Zurich
The Zurich Municipal Council resolves: Vegan menus with a good ecological footprint are to become the standard in hospitals, care homes and staff restaurants.
73 to 40 votes in favour of the postulate
In the hospitals, care homes and staff restaurants of the city of Zurich, vegan menus are to become the default option. The Municipal Council approved a corresponding postulate with 73 to 40 votes.
If vegan menus were to become the default option as Menu 1 in all municipal catering facilities, CO2 emissions could be reduced, said Julia Hofstetter (Greens).
A conscious choice rather than a ban
Meat menus would not be banned, but would have to be actively selected. The SVP, FDP and Mitte/EVP spoke of “paternalism”. More on the topics of Nutrition, Climate Change and Switzerland.
