Perverse Hunting Rowdies in a Nature Reserve

Good hunting practice requires that a shot must be placed in such a way that the killed animal can be retrieved and transported into the valley using humane and conventional methods. Drones and helicopters are a complete no-go!

Hunting rowdies see things differently. On their pay channel Hunt-on-Demand, the brothers F write:

«Things work differently here in Vorarlberg. It quickly becomes clear: the understanding and practice of hunting here is not comparable to hunting conditions in Germany. The existing infrastructure now needs to be turned on its head.»

For days, people have been astonished and puzzled by the German pair of brothers who shot an ibex in the Kanisfluh nature reserve and then had it transported into the valley by helicopter. Apparently, after the shot, the animal fell 50 metres down a steep cliff. The chamois had “met an unfortunate end in very difficult terrain”, says the hunting filmmaker in the video. The hunters also had themselves flown into the valley by “the big bird”, as they put it, reports the Kronenzeitung.

It was apparently clear to the two German hobby hunters from the outset that they would need a helicopter to get back into the valley. The transport flight had in fact been booked a day in advance, confirmed Wucher Helicopter, based in Ludesch.

Aside from the fact that such behaviour is prohibited in a nature reserve, the two hobby hunters Marc and Benjamin Frahm along with their hunting filmmaker Rouven Kreienmeier, who documented the trip in meticulous detail, also failed to behave correctly in other respects. On one hand, they staged the outing as a survival trip; on the other, they left equipment behind on the mountain, according to the Kronenzeitung. There is also mention of newly placed bolt anchors and 300 metres of fixed rope that the group had used. “The shooting area was reached in expedition style”, the VN a local mountain guide. The matter will have legal consequences.

The salt licks used by the hunting leaseholders of the private hunting ground Wirmboden-Kanisfluh to attract the ibex are also described as unprofessional. «Providing rock salt for ibex is not unusual. But salt licks are for cows and have no business up there. It shows what kind of amateurs were at work here«, explains district hunting master Hans Metzler.

Manfred Vonbank, a hunter from Bludenz, also makes no secret of his opinion: "Something like this has nothing to do with our hunting and must be stopped immediately." What particularly angers him is the exploitation of the "adventure" on social media — for the purpose of making money: "This is simply and straightforwardly a business model that is already widespread in the USA. Now it is coming to us too. But this obsession with views and clicks has nothing to do with traditional hunting.“

Hobby hunters need photographs and videos to feel important. In the military, people who engage in such self-promotion while killing would be dishonorably discharged and referred to psychiatric care.
