More wild boar despite culling with night vision clip-on devices
Technical aids are meant to make wild boar hunting easier. Yet the population continues to grow.
Hobby hunters are permitted to use night vision devices when hunting wild boar. Despite this aid, the cantons of Aargau and Solothurn have seen no reduction in wild boar. The numbers have in fact increased.
“These are no miracle cures”
“These are no miracle cures,” says Silvia Nietlispach of the Solothurn Hunting and Fisheries Administration. “Wild boar are highly intelligent animals. Hunting them is a challenge.” Recreational hunting fails as population control.
Soon with silencers?
The federal government and cantons are discussing the approval of further technical aids, including silencers. The new Hunting Act would have regulated this, but was rejected at the ballot box. More on the topic of recreational hunting and Switzerland.
