Hobby hunter in Turkey shot by dog

Editorial Wild beim Wild — 29 November 2022

An unusual accident has cost a hobby hunter in Turkey his life.

He was shot by his own dog, as the German newspaper «Bild» reports.

Loaded rifle in the boot

A photo shows him grinning broadly, holding up a row of dead birds with one hand while stroking a dog's neck with the other.

According to the report, the Turkish man had stowed his equipment in the boot after a hunting trip with friends in the mountains of Kizlan near Alcam in the north of the country, including his loaded rifle. When the dog jumped into the car, it is said to have touched the weapon in such a way that a shot was discharged and struck the 32-year-old.

Autopsy to provide clarity

The man died on the spot. Friends and emergency responders could do nothing more for him. Police and prosecutors are investigating the bizarre hunting accident. A friend was initially detained but has since been released. The autopsy of the body is expected to provide further clues as to whether it may in fact be a case of foul play.

Local media reported that he had only become a father ten days earlier.
