Recreational hunter dies in the canton of Vaud
Once again, the Swiss hunting menace claims a victim. One would have to sue the state that equips senile individuals with weapons and thereby endangers living beings. From the age of 40, the number of accidents rises dramatically. Every 29 hours a hunting accident occurs, and every 3½ months there is a fatality to mourn. In the police force or the military, older individuals are not sent on armed operations with dangerous firearms — and for good reason.
87-year-old shoots himself in the groin area
On Friday, 6 October 2023, at around 6:10 p.m., a man on a hobby hunt in Curtilles in the canton of Vaud injured himself with his weapon.
According to initial information, he shot himself in the groin area, in a manner that investigations must clarify. Despite the first aid rendered to him by other recreational hunters and then by the police, the 87-year-old Swiss man died at the scene of the accident.
Criminal investigation initiated
The duty prosecutor's office initiated a criminal investigation to determine the exact circumstances and causes of this hunting accident.
Not the first accident of the hunting season
It is not the first accident of this year's hunting season in Switzerland. At the beginning of September, two recreational hunters were found dead in the canton of Graubünden. In mid-September, a recreational hunter on a hobby hunt in the canton of Uri was struck and injured by a ricochet. The Rega airlifted the 38-year-old to hospital.
