Cosmetics industry uses fewer badger hairs

More and more cosmetics companies are doing away with badger hair in shaving brushes. Badgers are brutally killed for their production. Alternatives exist.

Wild animals killed for their skin, fur, and hair value their own lives just as much as humans do and do not want to die.

After PETA released a video about China's badger farms in 2018, around 100 manufacturers and brands — including L'Oréal and Wilkinson — have since agreed to stop using badger hair in the future.

The L’Oréal Group — the world's largest cosmetics and beauty company — has even banned badger, goat, and all other animal hair across its industry.

PETA Asia exposed the fact that badgers are illegally caught in the wild using traps and other cruel methods. On farms, they are locked in small cages and ultimately killed by force so that their hair can be used to make painting, make-up, and shaving brushes, which are then sold around the world.

People may look different from badgers, but when it comes to the qualities that truly matter — such as the ability to feel joy, form family bonds, cherish life, and experience pain — we are all the same.

Badgers are highly social animals that in the wild construct elaborate underground structures, some of which are centuries old and have been inhabited by many generations of the same clan. They are fastidious and have separate rooms for sleeping and giving birth, as well as designated outdoor areas for "bathrooms". Just like humans, these creatures deserve to live their complex lives as nature intended — not in a dirty cage, waiting for a cruel and painful death.

There is no reason to use animal hair brushes, especially when so many high-quality alternatives are available. Please only buy synthetic brushes, so that badgers no longer have to suffer in cages on farms.
