Clint Eastwood has spoken out about the benefits of a plant-based diet, saying that it «brings about positive changes for the well-being of animals and people«.

The actor and director, known for his work on a number of popular westerns, also spoke about his love of animals in the new wildlife documentary Why On Earth.

He said: «I am an animal lover, I appreciate the beauty of animals. I just like to see everything live.»

Why On Earth explores the connection between people, animals, and the planet. It addresses topics such as deforestation caused by palm oil, trophy hunting, poaching, and the animal farming industry.

The film comes from conservationist and filmmaker Katie Cleary, who recently said that viewers will see the “compassionate side” of Eastwood.

«He takes us through the whole process. He is incredible. He is a great animal lover«, she told Fox News. «This film really brings out an amazing side of him that many people may not have seen before — his compassionate side, especially for animals

Clint Eastwood's commitment to animals

Cleary met Eastwood through his daughter Alison Eastwood, who co-founded the animal welfare and rescue organisation Eastwood Ranch.

Eastwood explains on their website that the love of animals was «instilled in her by her family«.

In addition to rescuing animals from shelters, the ranch aims to help reduce animal overpopulation and increase adoptions through campaigns, events, education, spay and neuter programmes, and rescue partnerships.

Clint Eastwood filmed scenes from «Why On Earth« at the ranch, which Cleary described as amazing.

She added: «Just to see his ranch and, you know, he's surrounded by nature, and he's just a remarkable person. He just has such a big heart.«

Alongside Clint Eastwood, Why on Earth also features other animal lovers, including NBA legend John Salley, anti-poaching groups in Africa, people working to save orangutans in areas deforested by the palm oil industry, and organizations such as Animal Recovery Mission (ARM), which exposes the cruelty of the factory farming industry.«The best thing we can do is to cherish the beautiful things we have, and animals belong exactly in that category», says Clint Eastwood at the end of the film trailer.

The film opened in US and Canadian cinemas on August 16 and is available to stream on various platforms, including In Demand, Google Play, Amazon, iTunes, Vudu, Vimeo, and Hoopla.
