Animal cruelty: Recreational hunter abuses dog in Spain
Unfortunately, this case is one among thousands. Recreational hunters not only mistreat and shoot their own animals, but also those of innocent citizens.
A shot mother dog is brutally dragged by a recreational hunter into a roadside ditch while severely injured.
This is reported by several Spanish animal welfare organisations, including «PACMA», which published the video of the horrific animal abuse on Twitter.
Horrific scenes documented on video
The footage shows an unidentified person, who is recording the disturbing video, running down a hill while following a man. As the person eventually draws closer to the man, it becomes clear what he is actually dragging behind him.
A dirt-covered and severely injured dog that appears unable to move at all. The wildlife killer brutally drags the animal using a stick tied to the dog's collar with a rope, pulling it over stones and through a tunnel, where the person filming finally catches up to him and confronts him.
Completely unfazed, he continues to drag the dog by the neck and throws it into a roadside ditch.
Recreational hunter shoots his own mother dog
According to the animal welfare organisation PACMA, the unidentified individual is a recreational hunter who had shot his female dog shortly beforehand, presumably because she had given birth to six puppies.
It was apparently the shot fired by the recreational hunter that had also drawn the attention of the man filming the animal abuse to the scene.
According to the nature conservation organisation «Libera», the man defended his actions by stating that he was, after all, a recreational hunter and could shoot whatever he wanted.
Common sense, of course, sees things very differently. The animal welfare organisation «Mundo Vivo» states that it later rescued the six defenceless and abandoned puppies, as well as the mother dog, who was taken to a veterinary clinic where she subsequently died. The puppies are being cared for at an animal welfare centre.
PACMA has filed a criminal complaint against the recreational hunter.
Should the case be prosecuted by the authorities and, above all, the identity of the recreational hunter be determined, the man could face up to 18 months in prison for animal cruelty.
