According to Twitter, bullfighting is a «sadistic pleasure»
The social network considers several videos of a bullfight that took place last Saturday in Spain to be a violation of its rules.
Twitter temporarily suspended an account that had been sharing videos of bullfighter Morante de la Puebla.
Specifically, the case concerned the bullfight of 17 July 2021 in Algeciras, Spain, which the platform blocked on the grounds thatthe videos promoted «sadistic pleasure«.
The far-right José Antonio Morante, 41, whose stage name Morante de la Puebla derives from the village of La Puebla del Río near Seville where he was born, is known as a traditional bullfighter of the Sevillian school. He has been married twice and is known for his love of cigar smoking.
Although it was initially reported that the account (@Moranteinfo) belonged to Morante himself, it actually belongs to a fan of his who is responsible for publishing information about his daily life and the bullfights in which he appears.
The fan condemned this action on Twitter with a message stating that «freedom does not exist in this country. Enough is enough» and also uploaded a screenshot showing the reasons why Twitter had temporarily suspended his official account.
According to Twitter, these posts do not comply with its rules, in particular the one prohibiting the sharing of multimedia contentthat shows «gratuitous bloody scenes».
«You may not share excessively graphic multimedia content (e.g. serious injuries, torture…).The sight of bloody scenes can be harmful, especially when the content is posted with the intent to provoke enjoyment of cruelty or sadistic pleasure«, according to Twitter.
Twitter schliesst sich damit anderen Plattformen und sozialen Netzwerken wie Youtube, Vimeo und Facebook an, die solche von ihren Nutzern hochgeladenen Inhalte ebenfalls einschränken und entfernen.
„Wir sehen dies als einen sehr positiven Schritt von Twitter. Viele Leute sehen diese Art von Bilder in den sozialen Medien und beschweren sich. Jetzt hat Twitter gehandelt“, sagte Aida Gascon, Direktorin der NGO Animanaturalis, die sich für Tierrechte einsetzt.
Der Stierkampfsektor ist am Boden zerstört
Spanier haben eine gemischte Einstellung zum Stierkampf, manche betrachten ihn als Kunstform, andere als eine Form der Grausamkeit. Eigentlich müssten die Stierkämpfer wegen Tiermissbrauch im Gefängnis sitzen, finden die Letzteren.
Jedes Jahr sterben fast 10’000 Stiere, nachdem sie in Stierkampfarenen gequält wurden, und Tausende weitere werden in Dörfern in ganz Spanien schikaniert und misshandelt.
Dieses Jahr wurden wegen Corona im Frühling wieder mehr als 200 Stierkämpfe abgesagt. Der Stierkampfsektor, der sich bewusst ist, dass der Coronavirus ein harter Schlag sein wird, hat begonnen die Regierung um die wirtschaftliche Rettung des Stierkampfes zu bitten. Die Stierkampfbetriebe stehen offenbar am Rande des Bankrotts.
