No wildlife hunting with dogs in modern Scotland
Scottish Environment Minister Mairi McAllan condemns the hunting and killing of wildlife with dogs.
New law on hunting with dogs
The practice of using dogs to hunt and kill wildlife has no place in modern Scotland, according to the Scottish Environment Minister.
Since 2002, recreational hunting with dogs for wild mammals has been banned, but exceptions have been granted under certain circumstances, writes BBC.
The draft legislation proposes that all hobby hunters may only use two dogs. In addition, trail hunting is to be banned and a licensing system introduced.
A turning point for animal welfare
Should the draft legislation be passed, this would be a turning point for animal welfare, according to the League Against Cruel Sports. Dogs and wildlife frequently come into conflict, which can lead to dangerous or even fatal injuries.
