Massacre of the wolf population in Ticino: 1 of 5

The wolves will not understand what is happening to them. For years, people irresponsibly fed them within their territory due to negligent herd protection. And now, suddenly, shots are being fired at them everywhere, even though these wolves were never hostile towards those people.

Young wolf of the Carvina pack killed

On 2 December 2023, a young wolf was killed by wildlife rangers as part of the order to massacre the Carvina pack.

This was announced by the Office for Hunting and Nonsense in Bellinzona, which stated that the carcass was transported, as per standard practice, to the Fish and Wildlife Medicine Centre (FIWI) for the necessary analysis.

Kill order for three packs

This is the only specimen born in 2023 from the Val Carvina pack, for which the cantonal government had issued a kill order just a few days earlier, following approval by the Federal Office for the Environment.

Taking into account the binding opinion of the Federal Office for the Environment, the cantonal government issued the following massacre order:

  • Val Colla pack: killing of up to three wolves born in 2023
  • Carvina pack: killing of one wolf born in 2023
  • Onsernone pack: killing of one wolf born in 2023

Fact-free wolf management

Over the past twelve months, approximately fifteen wolves have been identified, distributed across the entire cantonal territory.

Wolf management in Switzerland is now entirely devoid of facts. The Geneva model has shown since 1974 that professional wildlife management works without hobby hunters.
