Hedgehog rescue station in Frauenfeld destroyed by fire

In the town centre of Frauenfeld TG, a fire largely destroyed a former army building in the night of Thursday to Friday. The wooden structure, used as a storage facility by the municipal depot, also housed a hedgehog rescue station. According to police, 20 animals were rescued.

The fire broke out for reasons still unknown at around 1:00 a.m., said a spokesperson for the Thurgau cantonal police.

Several passers-by had reported the fire in the building near the train station to the emergency services.

The building that went up in flames was a former army structure used as a hedgehog rescue station and materials storage facility by the city of Frauenfeld.

Around 60 firefighters were deployed. They were able to extinguish the fire quickly. Police had no information regarding any injuries.

The building was largely destroyed, said the police spokesperson. The extent of material damage is not yet known.
