Johannes Jenny: FDP serves up crow carcass soup

At last, even the meat lovers within the FDP get their liberal menu, courtesy of Johannes Jenny.

Several hobby hunters in the canton of Aargau have joined forces to make the FDP’s first crow soup possible. Loosely following the motto: «Savouring sustainability in the form of crow soup«.

The crow carcass soup was served to the public by then regional councillor and media-hungry hunting enthusiast Johannes Jenny at an FDP campaign event in Baden/AG, as the Aargauer Zeitung documents in detail. Pro Natura Aargau has apparently already done so much for crow habitats that the birds should now be shot at farmers’ request and sustainably processed into soup. Yet the crows are begrudged to predators at wildlife rescue stations or zoos, for example.

Given that more and more people are giving up meat for health and ethical reasons, must we now aggressively counter this trend with even more carcass variations? On top of that, there is a deliberate attempt to outdo one unethical act with an even more unethical one. After all, chickens in factory farming fare no better. The fact that crow hunting, according to experts, yields no long-term benefits and can even cause farmers additional problems is knowingly accepted — and is not disputed by Johannes Jenny either.

There are indeed sensible, non-lethal ways to protect vegetables from crows. One simply needs to avoid consulting the wrong people.

Hobby hunter Rainer Klöti, president of the Aargau Hunting Protection Association, echoes the same sentiment and, in the spirit of Jenny, states: «We want to offer this unique soup experience once again to self-confessed meat lovers. I think it’s fundamentally great that wild animals that have been shot are put to use for human digestion».

Just because FDP politician Johannes Jenny wants to eat everything, does that mean one has to run such a primitive FDP election campaign? Why doesn't he simply stay among his like-minded peers – the hunters – with his pseudo-ethical and pseudo-scientific glorifications and menus?

Johannes Jenny has two faces, and he no longer has the civilized one under control. It almost seems as though he is suffering from a severe identity crisis. Did he also feed his carrion soup to children?

Processed game meat is carcinogenic – like cigarettes, asbestos, plutonium, or arsenic – according to the World Health Organization (WHO). 50 grams of meat equals an 18 percent higher cancer risk, according to the conclusion of a 22-member expert team from ten countries that reviewed over 800 studies documenting a link between more than a dozen different types of cancer and meat consumption. There is sufficient evidence with regard to colorectal cancer, experts report in the journal “Lancet Oncology” of the agency affiliated with the World Health Organization WHO. In addition, a link to stomach cancer has been observed.

«The recipe is very simple. The preparation, actually, too», FDP politician Johannes Jenny continued. Initial taste tests had already generated enthusiastic reactions among his party friends. They can choose – depending on preference – between rare, medium, and well done. Carrots provide the necessary consistency and add a pleasantly poultry-like note on the finish.

Further wild animal soups are to follow as a matter of course. Johannes Jenny is presumably already working on a pure pigeon soup (domestic pigeon, collared dove, wood pigeon) for the market. But more exotic flavors such as marten-mouse-fox soup or a muskrat-swan smoothie for the warmer months are now also part of his potential portfolio.

For the time being, Johannes Jenny wants to focus on marketing ready-made soups in the canton of Aargau. In the long term, however, work is presumably already underway on a meat box to be delivered to subscribers after the hunt. The raw carcasses contained within it would then allow anyone to quickly mix together their own fresh carrion soups.

Johannes Jenny had actually wanted to sustainably market cat goulash foist on the population. However, the government of the canton of Aargau was able to call the odd bird to heel, as stray cats are not part of the hunters' mandate. The Aargau cantonal government had no sympathy for the demands of FDP Cantonal Councillor Johannes Jenny. With his motion that feral cats must be shot and the hunting regulations adjusted accordingly, Johannes Jenny once again caused a stir well beyond party lines.

The FDP politician, in his role as managing director of Pro Natura Aargau, is a councillor who lobbies professionally for landscape and environmental protection. However, Johannes Jenny is by no means the “most environmentally friendly” candidate — he ranks 10th among all FDP candidates in this year's elections on 23 October 2016 in the canton of Aargau. On a scale of 0 to 10, the score for the “greenest” FDP representative, Elisabeth Weirich from Zurzach, is 7.9. The score for Pro Natura man Jenny is 5.7.

Actually a good reason to vote the vulture out over a nice glass of wine, by leaving him off the list entirely.
