Man found motionless

On Saturday afternoon (24.02.2024), a man was found dead on a staircase in Maur in the canton of Zurich.

Shortly after 12 noon, a resident reported that a man was lying motionless at the bottom of an exterior staircase of a house. Resuscitation measures immediately initiated by emergency responders who arrived quickly at the scene were unsuccessful.

The exact cause of death of the 71-year-old is currently still unclear. Hans-Rudolf B.* was a well-known recreational hunter. He held the lease for hunting district 104 in Maur. Hans-Rudolf had never been married and had no children, according to blick.ch.

Based on current findings, a criminal act is the primary line of investigation.

Deep rifts within the family

His sister Elisabeth B.* describes the recreational hunter as peaceable, which is an antonym. For many years there is said to have been a generational dispute within the farming and recreational hunter family, local farmers in the region report. The perpetrator presumably simply no longer wanted the victim in his vicinity, a farmer from the village believes, according to research by 20min.ch.

Suspect arrested

The investigations by the Zurich cantonal police led to the arrest of the 38-year-old Swiss national on 24 February 2024. The alleged perpetrator is said to be a family member and the operator of a dog boarding kennel. The exact circumstances of the act are the subject of ongoing investigations by the Zurich cantonal police and the public prosecutor's office of the canton of Zurich.

The Public Prosecutor's Office I of the canton of Zurich has opened criminal proceedings against the detainee and has applied to the compulsory measures court for pre-trial detention.

Together with the Cantonal Police of Zurich, an ambulance from Uster Hospital, an emergency physician from Regio 144, the responsible public prosecutor, the Forensic Institute of Zurich, and the Institute of Forensic Medicine at the University of Zurich were deployed.
