Animal Cruelty: Dead Crows Hung Up as a Deterrent
PETA reports the act to the veterinary office in Höchstadt and demands an immediate ban on the “deterrence method.”
A barbaric deterrence measure: on a field near Weisendorf, a farmer hung up dead crows as a «scaring measure.»
Violation of State Hunting Law
PETA requested that the veterinary office and the Lower Hunting Authority on 26.4.2021 examine whether a violation of the State Hunting Law had occurred. The carrion crow is among the protected bird species.
The images of the dead crows shock every animal lover. This so-called scaring method using the battered bodies of dead animals must be banned immediately.
Peter Höffken, specialist advisor at PETA
In PETA’s view, «scaring methods» using dead animals should be prohibited by the district authority.

Recreational hunting unnecessary from an ecological perspective
According to the Swiss Animal Protection organisation (STS), the method is useless: «Crows quickly realise that there is no danger here». Alleged crop damage — which is scientifically unproven — serves as a pretext for recreational hunting of crows.
The canton of Geneva — where recreational hunting has been banned for over 40 years — is just one example of this. Here, nature is largely left to regulate itself. The result: high biodiversity and healthy, stable wildlife populations.
