Criminal Recreational Hunters in the Taminatal
The Taminatal or Vättnertal is a side valley of the Alpine Rhine Valley, drained by the Tamina. It is located in the canton of St. Gallen, with a small part in the canton of Graubünden.
Protected black grouse shot during closed season
During a hunting trip, a 38-year-old recreational hunter shoots a displaying black grouse during the closed season. The black grouse is listed in Switzerland on the Red List of potentially endangered species.
The recreational hunter acted deliberately, as he intended to have the killed black grouse mounted as a trophy. He was sentenced to a suspended fine and his hunting licence was revoked across the whole of Switzerland for one year.
Club chairman covers up wildlife crime
The 68-year-old chairman of the hunting association failed to enter the incident into the electronic hunting database. Only two and a half years later did he report himself. The chairman had already falsified records in 2019.
Weapons freely accessible in hunting cabin
