Wolf's head found outside species conservation centre

A severed wolf's head with its tongue cut out was found outside the NABU Species Conservation Centre in Leiferde. Police are investigating.

The debate over the protection of wolves in Germany has taken a new macabre turn. Walkers found a severed wolf's head outside the NABU species conservation centre in Leiferde, Lower Saxony.

Investigators are examining whether this is the head belonging to a wolf carcass found two weeks ago in a car park in Gifhorn. The case is being investigated as poaching.

Fines of up to 50’000 euros

Under Lower Saxony's penalty catalogue, capturing, injuring or killing a wolf can cost up to 50’000 euros. The organisation Wolfsschutz Deutschland is offering a reward of 3’000 euros for information. More on the topic of crime and hunting and species conservation.
