Wildlife management: Status quo

Hobby hunters are breeding domesticated pets from wild animals in their own gardens!

Editorial Team Wild beim Wild — August 17, 2023

Hobby hunters try to reshape nature with misguided and egocentric ideas about wildlife management .

Recreational hunting is no longer what it used to be. Today it resembles domestic animal husbandry. The species of interest to recreational hunters are fed and fattened. Wild animals are 100% controlled and subjugated.

Predators keep wildlife populations healthy

For the past few years, migrating wolves and lynxes have been thwarting the plans of amateur hunters. These so-called predators are preying on what the amateur hunters want to steal, and therefore must be removed or are sometimes tolerated reluctantly.

Unlike recreational hunters, predators ensure a healthy and balanced wildlife population. Wolves, lynxes, and other predators keep wildlife populations healthy. The risk of being fatally shot by a recreational hunter is far greater than the risk of being attacked by a wolf.

Hunting-free areas exhibit greater biodiversity.

Wildlife populations are currently disproportionately large due to the misguided hunting practices of recreational hunters. While browsing damage is not necessarily higher in hunting-free areas, biodiversity is correspondingly greater.

How sick are hobby hunters?

In the Swiss canton of Graubünden, approximately 20% of all recreational hunters demonstrably violate laws and regulations every year. The real issue is organizing attractive hunts; everything else, such as wildlife management, is just smoke and mirrors.

According to the organization "Wild beim Wild" (Wild with Wild), the only truly effective solution is a radical reform of recreational hunting, moving towards professional wildlife management with game wardens and, where necessary, birth control. Sadism, narcissism, and the glorification of violence are easily cultivated through recreational hunting. Therefore, recreational hunters should be kept away from schools , children, and wildlife.
