Scotland: Massive Animal Cruelty in the Wool Industry
After PETA Asia first released footage in August exposing cruelty within the English wool industry, current recordings made on Scottish farms now highlight the massive prevalence of animal cruelty throughout the entire British wool industry. Once again, shearers brutally struck sheep in the face during shearing. Workers stitched bloody wounds with needle and thread without painkillers, and numerous animals died following the ordeal.

«Regardless of whether it’s Australia, North America, South America, or Europe – PETA Asia and its partner organisations have documented massive animal suffering during shearing all over the world,» said Jason Baker, Senior Vice President of PETA Asia. «Wool is always associated with animal suffering – and no label or certification can change that.»
Dying sheep dragged across the floor
A worker was filmed dragging a sheep that appeared to be dying by one leg behind him. The animal’s head repeatedly struck the hard, stony ground over the course of several metres.
PETA Asia has submitted the extensive body of evidence to the SPCA and is calling on the authorities to investigate and, where appropriate, press criminal charges. For millions of sheep and lambs, wool means suffering and death. More on animal rights.
