Do the Jurassian hobby hunters protect more than they hunt?
In the Jura, a hobby hunter who knows how to protect nature is considered a good hunter.
A working day without a rifle
Hobby hunters in the canton of Jura are required to dedicate one full working day to the benefit of nature — or they lose their hunting licence. “Every hobby hunter devotes eight hours of their time each year to the well-being of nature,” says Nicolas Wallimann, president of the cantonal hunters’ association.
Hunting dogs in enclosures that fail to meet animal welfare standards
The hunting dogs of Jurassian hobby hunters fare considerably worse. One hobby hunter keeps at least 4 dogs in enclosures that do not meet animal welfare standards. The dogs have neither daily exercise nor an outdoor enclosure. IG Wild beim Wild filed a criminal complaint on 12.4.2023.
