The Italian fashion label Prada is also abandoning fur in future. The change will begin with new designs for women’s fashion for the summer 2020 season.

The Milan-based fashion company joined the Fur Free Alliance. Many other luxury companies have already stopped using fur and exotic leather.

Following the lead of other luxury groups, Italian fashion house Prada is now also giving up real fur. From the Spring-Summer 2020 collection onwards, the company will use only faux fur.

The Milan-based fashion company joined the Fur Free Alliance (FFA), an animal welfare organisation active in over 40 countries.

“This is a great day for animals,” said Brigit Oele, Programme Manager of the Fur Free Alliance.

«The Prada Group is committed to innovation and social responsibility, and our anti-fur policy reflects this commitment», stressed company owner Miuccia Prada. The company will focus on innovative materials and ethical products.

Existing stock would still be sold. The focus on «innovative materials» offers the opportunity to «explore the new frontiers of creative design» while at the same time meeting the demand for ethically sound products.

In December, fashion group Chanel had announced that it would no longer use fur or leather from exotic animals. Labels such as Hugo Boss, Tommy Hilfiger, Calvin Klein, Tom Ford, Stella McCartney, Vivienne Westwood, Comme des Garçons and Versace had already committed to fur-free fashion years ago.
