Luxury fashion brand Saint Laurent abandons fur
French luxury brand Saint Laurent will no longer use fur in its collections. Parent company Kering confirms the move.
French high-end fashion brand Saint Laurent will no longer use fur in its collections, its parent company Kering announced.
Kering Group to be completely fur-free from 2022
Within the Kering Group, Gucci was the first brand to go fur-free in 2017, followed by Balenciaga, Bottega Veneta and Alexander McQueen. Kering will be completely fur-free from its autumn 2022 collections.
««The world has changed, and so have our customers, and luxury must naturally adapt to that», said Kering CEO François-Henri Pinault.
Animal welfare organisations have long campaigned for the global fashion industry to abandon fur, and several brands, including Versace, Chanel and Michael Kors, have already stopped using animal products.

««Fur has nothing glamorous about it», PETA declared to Saint Laurent.
Louis Vuitton will continue to sell fur
LVMH, the parent company of Louis Vuitton and rival of Kering, stated that it would continue to sell fur products. The products would be «produced in the most ethical and responsible way possible», said LVMH.
According to PETA, 85% of the fur sold worldwide comes from animals who spend their entire lives in captivity, often under «miserable» and «extremely cruel» conditions.
They are typically killed by gassing, electrocution, or being clubbed to death.
