Hunting Regulations: Temporary Adjustments Due to Coronavirus

The canton of Graubünden is waiving the annual mandatory hunting shooting requirement for 2020 in the interest of a uniform regulation. Hunters from Graubünden can therefore obtain licenses for the various hunts without proof of shooting. In addition, the hunting regulations for admission to the 2020 weapons and shooting examination are being adjusted.

Obtaining proof of shooting is a prerequisite for hunters from Graubünden to acquire licenses for the various hunts. Due to the protective measures imposed by the Federal Council, normal hunting and military shooting operations cannot be guaranteed this year, which is why the federal government is waiving the mandatory shooting requirement. Furthermore, it remains unclear whether further easing of protective measures will follow after 8 June 2020 or whether the pandemic will worsen again. Given the current situation, the Swiss Conference of Hunting and Fisheries Administrators (JFK) has recommended that the cantons suspend the mandatory hunting shooting proof for 2020. Many cantons are already waiving this requirement for 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic, writes the Graubünden Office for Hunting and Fisheries.

Uniform Regulation

Given the aforementioned difficulties and in the interest of a uniform regulation among the cantons, Graubünden is also waiving the annual mandatory hunting shooting requirement for 2020. Hunting shooting operations in Graubünden will be organized this year in such a way that the canton's recreational hunters can fulfill their legal obligations in accordance with the hunting regulations can meet this requirement by practicing their shooting accuracy before the start of the hunting season and sighting in their hunting weapon for the respective hunt.

Shorter Preparation for the Weapons and Shooting Examination 2020

The protective measures ordered by the Federal Council have also strongly affected the conduct of hunting aptitude examinations. Due to the protective measures ordered by the Federal Council since March and the associated restrictions regarding preparation for the hunting examination, the requirements for admission to the weapons and shooting examination in 2020 have been adjusted. Instead of at least 30 hours of conservation work and 18 hours of weapons and shooting training, only 10 hours of conservation work and 6 hours of weapons and shooting training are required as prerequisites for admission to the weapons and shooting examination in 2020. The examination requirements remain unchanged. The canton of Geneva has demonstrated since 1974, with its model without hobby hunting that professional wildlife management by game wardens represents an effective alternative.
