Hunting president incites the Federal Council against the wolf

The hunting president incites the Federal Council against the wolf. The lobby of the recreational hunters attempts to undermine species protection.

Editorial Wild beim Wild — 20 September 2022

Claudio Zali is a Swiss lawyer, politician and state councillor in Bellinzona.

He had described Fabio Regazzi — hunting president in Ticino — in the newspaper years ago as an embodiment of arrogance, lack of legal awareness and selfishness.

Qualifications to be elected to the very top of any hunting club. It is therefore not surprising that Fabio Regazzi is also on the board of JagdSchweiz .

The association JagdSchweiz cultivates above all disrespect and a culture of violence — the very opposite of what a cultured person in our society should aspire to.

Members of the association JagdSchweiz have connections to representatives of power in general. Furthermore, they make use of violence or other means suited to intimidation (fear-mongering, propaganda, hunters’ tall tales, etc.) in order to exert influence on politics, the media, public administration, the judiciary or the economy.

Practically everything that is cruel, unnecessary and heartless is promoted by the federation JagdSchweiz.

For these people from the dark world of the hunting milieu, no effort is too great to manipulate democracy, freedom of the press and freedom of opinion, etc. That is precisely what Fabio Regazzi does on a continuous loop.

The spread of wolf populations in the Alpine region has spiralled out of control, believes hobby hunter Fabio Regazzi in the question session to the Federal Council on 13.9.2022.

We can no longer wait, but must act immediately before it is too late.

Fabio Regazzi

Wolves are bringing the small remaining remnant of mountain farming to its knees, Regazzi elaborates further. «Many animal keepers have already thrown in the towel or are on the verge of doing so.»

«Is the Federal Council prepared to make an urgent amendment to legislation (Art. 165 FC) in order to relax and simplify the far too complicated conditions and procedures for shooting wolves«, he concludes by asking the Federal Council.

The wolf population in Switzerland is growing rapidly. However, the Federal Council does not consider the situation serious enough to justify the application of emergency law. In order to accelerate the culling of wolves, the Federal Council amended the hunting ordinance last year and is planning further reductions for the 2023 alpine season. In addition, Parliament is preparing a new draft amendment to the hunting ordinance aimed at proactive regulation of wolves. This draft will be debated in the Council of States on 29 September 2022.

Disrespectful Fabio Regazzi

Companies with fewer than 250 employees must continue to pay radio and television licence fees. On 20.9.2022, the Council of States rejected a parliamentary initiative by Ticino Center Party National Councillor Fabio Regazzi, which had called for them to be exempted.

FDP Council of States member Olivier Français recalled the No-Billag vote. "The public debate on this issue took place in 2018", when the electorate voted against the initiative to abolish radio and television licence fees with 71.6 percent.

Exempting SMEs from the media levy would not only lead to an additional burden on households, but above all would "run counter to the will of the people as clearly expressed at the ballot box", said Français on behalf of the advisory telecommunications committee.

Regazzi was particularly prominent in the supraregional press for his advocacy of an amnesty and simultaneous tax relief for tax evaders, as well as for his motion in favor of lenient penalties for speeding drivers.
