Hobby Hunters Poach on Christmas Eve

Editorial Team Wild beim Wild — 28 December 2021

On Christmas Eve, a deer was poached in Brusio.

Three poachers are suspected of committing the act as well as further violations of hunting legislation. They must answer for their actions before the courts.

The cantonal police of Graubünden received a report on Christmas Eve shortly before 10:30 p.m. that a poached deer was being loaded into a car in Brusio. A police patrol, staff from the Federal Customs Administration, and a game warden checked the suspects at their place of residence. The three locals — a 30-year-old, his 61-year-old father, and a 29-year-old — admitted to having poached the one-sided antlered stag.

Suspicion of further offences confirmed

In the course of the police investigation, suspicion grew that the accused may have committed further criminal acts against hunting and weapons legislation. They confessed to having killed two additional deer in the Poschiavo valley outside the hunting season between December 2020 and March 2021, and to having killed a protected common buzzard during the small game hunting season in October 2021. The three hobby hunters are being referred to the public prosecutor's office of Graubünden.
