EU Citizens' Initiative: Stop Animal Cruelty and Schlaughter
Factory farming and slaughterhouses are at odds with the Universal Declaration of Animal Rights of 1978 and the Treaty of Lisbon, which grant all animals the equal right to life and define them as sentient beings.
Factory farming and slaughterhouses represent a constant threat to public health through the spread of ever new pandemics and health and hygiene problems (salmonella, avian influenza, etc.).
WE THEREFORE DEMAND:
1) Incentives for the cultivation of plant-based proteins, including plant-based milk and egg substitutes, and for the production of cultured meat
2) Plans for the gradual reduction of the number of farm animals by 50 % per year and for the successive closure of all animal breeding facilities
Factory farming operations should be closed first, followed by free-range operations and slaughterhouses.
They are synonymous with animal suffering and exploitation and carry a high risk of ever new pandemics and health hazards.
