Ecosystem Collapse Without Wildlife Rescue

Scientists studying the largest mass extinction in Earth's history have discovered that the steady destruction of animal and plant life can suddenly lead to a total collapse of the ecosystem.

Sixth Mass Extinction in Full Swing

Many scientists believe that the current enormous loss of biodiversity is the beginning of a new mass extinction. Wildlife is being destroyed by the destruction of natural habitats for agriculture and mining, by pollution and hunting.

In the new study, marine fossils from before, during and after the Great Dying were examined. The scientists found that half of the species went extinct without any change in the overall function of the ecosystem. However, once the last species in each role began to go extinct, the ecosystem rapidly collapsed.

Tipping Point Inevitable Without Reversal

«We are currently losing species faster than in any other extinction event in the past,» said Dr. Yuangeng Huang. «We cannot predict when the tipping point will be reached, but it is an inevitable outcome if we do not reverse the loss of biodiversity.» More on the topic of environment and conservation and climate change.

More on the subject of recreational hunting: The scientific evidence is presented in the overview Studies on the Effects of Recreational Hunting.

The position of IG Wild beim Wild: IG Wild beim Wild rejects recreational hunting. Our model is the canton of Geneva, which has managed without recreational hunting since 1974: without hunting seasons, without hunting dogs, without driven hunts, without high seats, without the animal cruelty and crime that go hand in hand with hunting season elsewhere. What has worked there for over fifty years disproves every position paper by JagdSchweiz. An association that bases its policy on claims it refutes in its own documents is not a professional organisation, but a factory for misinformation.
