Graubünden: Dangerous Consequences of Pointless Hobby Hunting

Although it has been proven for decades that foxes require no population management, the Office for Hunting and Nonsense in Graubünden pays little heed to scientific facts.

Hobby hunter (79) shoots dog instead of fox

A hobby hunter (79), operating under the authority of the Office for Hunting and Nonsense in Graubünden, shot the Weimaraner dog Blu from inside his home late on Saturday evening, 10 February 2024, having mistaken her for a fox.

In the canton of Graubünden, foxes and other wild animals are repeatedly and senselessly killed and also put on display without any sense of dignity.

Hobby hunters in Graubünden thus deliberately disturb, through their pointless hunting activities, the winter rest of all wildlife and inhabitants of a given biotope.

Shot fired after 11 p.m. in Sedrun

On Saturday after 11 p.m., a woman was walking her dog on a residential street in Sedrun. Suddenly a shot rang out and the dog, which had been walking ahead of her on a lead along a meadow embankment, collapsed. The owner notified the Graubünden cantonal police, who that same night identified a 79-year-old local resident. He admitted to having fired the shot.

Together with the Graubünden public prosecutor's office, the cantonal police is clarifying the exact circumstances of this misfire in cooperation with the wildlife wardens, reports 20min.ch.

Proof of shooting proficiency without age limit

Hobby hunters and racists do not differ substantially. Both place value on a culture of violence in pursuit of their diffuse agendas. Both share a distorted worldview, which they pursue with sect-like fervor want to realize militancy. Looking at the profiles of hobby hunters on social media, they are rife with conservatism, far-right ideology, Pegida, sexism, racism, status symbols, etc. It is rare to encounter people who aspire to higher ideals among hobby hunters. Hobby hunters also do not face their opponents in a fair fight in the open field — they are too cowardly and too treacherous for that.

To theoretically limit such accidents to a minimum, all hobby hunters in Switzerland must demonstrate their shooting proficiency every year. One point is striking, however: the program can be repeated any number of times until the requirements are met. The age of hobby hunters is also irrelevant.
