Woodpecker hid hundreds of kilos of acorns in chimney
When a tradesman was called to clean a house, he found himself inundated with acorns pouring out of a chimney.

Pest controller Nick Castro had, in principle, a clearly defined task: the owners of a house in Santa Barbara, California, had asked him to inspect their property for mealworms. But when Castro reached behind the wall, countless acorns came pouring out at him: 320 kilograms, stacked six metres high.
Acorn woodpecker identified as culprit
Apparently, an acorn woodpecker had been causing havoc in and around the house. “The instinct to insert an acorn into a hole and store it is very pronounced in these birds”, explains Angela Brierly of Old Dominion University to the Guardian. More on the topic Wildlife.
