The dentist who killed the lion Cecil five years ago is hunting again. The 60-year-old Walter Palmer paid up to 80’000 euros to slaughter a protected ram in Mongolia.

Following the outrage over Cecil's death, the face of the American killer is hidden in recent photos showing him hobby hunting a wild animal, writes The Mirror.

Trophy hunter Palmer again targets endangered species

Humane Society International said: “It is clear that killing for the thrill continues.”

The image was recently taken on one of his despicable trips, proving that dentist Palmer has returned to trophy hunting.

These revelations come despite the global backlash the American triggered after killing the beloved lion Cecil in Zimbabwe almost exactly five years ago.

Palmer paid up to 80’000 euros for the trip to hobby hunt the Altai argali – the world’s largest sheep species – in Mongolia.

Dr. Teresa Telecky, Vice President for Wildlife at Humane Society International, said: «It is an absolute scandal for trophy hunters to travel to Mongolia to kill a beautiful and endangered ram. The argali ram is a critically endangered species, so the idea that these animals can be killed for pleasure is revolting. The killing of Cecil the lion five years ago caused an international shock. But killing for the thrill is clearly continuing. It is time for laws to stop these wildlife killers by banning trophy hunting.» Such cases reveal the true face of recreational hunting as an animal welfare problem.

The Mirror is campaigning for an end to trophy hunting and calling on the British government to ban the import of animals killed for pleasure. Boris Johnson renews his promise to ban the import of hunting trophies into Great Britain.

The ram is believed to have been killed with an arrow from a distance of approximately 30 metres.

Palmer plans further hobby hunting trips

A source claims Palmer has planned several more trips. The insider said: «At the time of Cecil’s death, Walter stepped back. But he has been hunting since he was a boy. For him, it is a way of life. Walter has undertaken several recreational hunting trips since Cecil’s death. The trip to Mongolia was his idea. The ram was on his list of hunts he wanted to complete.»

The killed ram is still in Mongolia. US officials have yet to grant permission for its export to America.

The sick killer boasts about trophy hunting “as if he were addicted to heroin”, The Mirror continues. Father of two Walter Palmer refuses to hunt with a firearm — only with a bow and arrow. Read more about hunting myths and the psychology behind trophy hunting on wildbeimwild.com.

During his recreational hunt for the Altai argali, his travel companion and organiserSinclair made sure not to name Palmer in social media posts, referring to him instead as «Amigo».

Brent Sinclair

Sinclair wrote on his public Facebook page about the killer: «I have booked more hunting trips with this guy over the last 20 years than I can count.»
